IR Telemetrics Develops Patented Phase-Torque™ Sensor

February 24, 2011 — Infrared Telemetrics, Inc. of Hancock, MI, has developed the Phase-Torque system, a non-contact torque sensing technology that eliminates the cumbersome instrumentation used for measuring shaft power and torque. The Phase-Torque system is an entirely new approach to measuring shaft torque. Once installed, there are no electronics on the rotating shaft and it will hold up under extreme conditions. It can operate continuously as a monitoring system for ship propellers, industrial machinery, or transportation systems.

“The Phase-Torque makes shaft power measurement something engineers can rely on, like simple thermocouples and other robust sensors. This product makes real-time torque and power monitoring as routine as temperature,” states Glen Barna, President of IR Telemetrics.

The Phase-Torque system can be installed on shafts of any diameter with minimal space requirements. It has a high-frequency response, yet it continuously measures and monitors shaft torque and power. The system is patent-pending. IR Telemetrics provides application and design support to configure the standard Phase-Torque components for each customer.
